Information for Habitat House Build #65

402 W. Broad St.

Freeport, TX

May 8, 2008

To all HFH volunteers,

Habitat is nearly ready to start its third house build of 2008 (House #65).  It is at 402 W. Broad St. in Freeport (on the corner next to the last house we built in Freeport).  The following is a map to the build site, or click on the following link to display the map as you choose.

A tentative schedule of the work planned for each day is at the end of this e-mail.  Note, there are three days at the end of the build in which specialized work will be done, and volunteers will not be needed.  Of course, this schedule may change a little as the work proceeds and the personnel and weather can better be assessed.

Build Information:

Sign-in and breakfast are from 7:15-7:45 a.m. each day at the hospitality tent at the site.  Status reports and devotional are from 7:45-8:00 a.m.  Work starts about 8:00 a.m. and runs until about 5:00 p.m.  However, you can come and go at any time.  Breakfast, lunch, water, lemonade and snacks will be provided during the regular work days except as noted in the build schedule.

Any and all volunteers are welcome to participate on any of the work days.  There will be crew leaders present to direct the work and to show anyone how to do an unfamiliar job.  Most tools will be provided, however, you might want to bring your own hammer, tape and/or tool belt if you have them.  So, find a job you want to do, or take advantage of on-the-job training, and come help.  Please note that there are age restrictions for safety reasons.

  • No one under 15 years old can be on the construction site.
  • No one under the age of 18 can perform hazardous activities such as the use of power tools, demolition work, roofing, or working from a height of six feet or more.
  • 18-67 year olds can work on or above ground.
  • No one over 67 can work on the roof - framing, decking, shingling, etc.
  • All volunteers must have a signed waiver to work.
    • Volunteers under 18 must have a waiver signed by their parents or guardian before they can work.
    • Anyone 18 years old and older can sign their own waiver.

Remember, much of the build information, pictures from past builds and other information is available at Habitat’s web site.  You can access it through the following link: http://www.habitatsbc.org/ .  Please note that you can submit a Volunteer Information Form from the web site if you want to be notified of future build information.

Hope to see you at the build.
